Edge Of Seventeen DVD

It's the summer of 1984 (cue a great soundtrack including Bronski Beat and the Eurythmics!) and Eric passes the time waiting to start his senior in high school by taking a job at the local amusement park. Everything is fine until he meets co-worker Rod, an openly and unapologetically gay college student. Sparks fly and Eric is forced to confront  the long-suppressed desires which he has never known how to deal with.  In Eric's journey of discovery, he has his first (and more!) gay sexual experiences, goes to his first gay bar, deals with the "queer" name calling by his classmates, hides his sexuality from his family, and sleeps with and then alienates his best female friend... all the while morphing from a "nerd" into an eccentric dressing, hair-dyed 80's New Wave child in his attempt to become individual. The results are honest, funny, heartfelt, and displayed with an unexpected sexual candor. This has been hailed as a gay classic, in the vein of Beautiful Thing (but with an American flavour, obviously) and is an upbeat and invigorating fresh take on the awkwardness of self discovery.
