Love & Death on Long Island DVD

Stuffy British author Giles De'Ath (John Hurt) has been completely untouched by the modern world, and is somewhat lost after the death of his wife. One day, after an interviewer asks if he's ever considered adapting his best sellers for the screen, he decides to investigate cinema costume dramas. By accident, he views the teen movie 'Hotpants College 2' instead, and becomes instantly smitten with Hollywood hunk Ronnie Bostock (Jason Priestley, gamely parodying his own 'real' life persona). The obsession forces him to embrace 21st century inventions such as TV, video and pizza delivery (having previously abhorred anything modern) so that he can indulge himself with all night sessions of teen movies starring Bostock. He then uses his fame as an author to seek Bostock out in the flesh in Long Island, stalking him and then bumping into him and pretending he is writing a screenplay that would be perfect for Bostock to ingratiates himself into the actor's private life. But how will Ronnie react when he finally learns what's really on his new mentor's mind? Based on Gilbert Adair's novel (he also served as scriptwriter), this delightfully eccentric film pokes fun at not only the modern world of film acting, but also looks at the huge gulf between an older, more mannered age and the current trend of crass, instant gratification and celebrity.
