''I Do'' DVD
now in-store
at a special price!
I Do was one of the hits at this year's Sydney Mardi Gras Queer Screen Film Festival and we're very pleased to be able to offer this just released title at our very special price of $24.99 ($10 less than the recommended retail price)! This is an honest, charming film about a gay guy (handsome out and proud British actor, David W Ross) who is devoted to caring for his sister-in-law and niece. He's prepared to do what it takes to stay in the US for that, even marrying his best girl friend, but when he falls in love with Mano, his committments become hard to juggle... We also have a couple of new dvd releases recently seen on television : the absolutely hilarious Threesome, about what happens when a straight couple and their gay best friend try to put their partying ways behind them to raise a child together, and Please Like Me, starring gay Aussie comedian Josh Thomas.

Alan Ball (creator of Six Feet Under and American Beauty) has a new hit TV series which is a very sexy and atmospheric adaptation of Charlaine Harris' "Sookie Stackhouse" novels. Vampires have 'come out' of their coffins, want to be known as "Vampire- Americans",  and no longer need humans for their food as there is now a synthetic substitute available - "True Blood", marketed like Coca-Cola! Sookie (Anna Paquin) works as a waitress at a small town Louisiana bar, but also has a special gift - she can hear the thoughts of others. When she meets her first vampire, southern gentleman Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), she is strangely attracted to him, partly because she finds peace in the fact she cannot hear his thoughts. Aussie actor Ryan Kwanten provides ample eye candy as her dumb, hot and horny brother Jason, who spends more time out of his clothes than in them. Throw in flamboyant fry cook Lafayette who deals drugs and services middle-aged white men on the side, and Sam, the cute owner of the bar who is in love with Sookie and has a mysterious secret (which  frequently gets him stark naked), and you have the makings of your latest addiction! There is plenty of sex and a strong murder mystery plotline to add to the steamy Southern mix, but it is the characterisation, and the clever writing which is the hook. The humour and intelligence with which it deconstructs racism and homophobia are a delight - with references to christian fundamentalists campaigning against vampire rights (their slogan is "God Hates Fangs") and throwaway gags like a newspaper headline "Angelina Jolie adopts Vampire Baby". Highly Recommended! Also check out True Blood : The Complete Second Season on dvd.
