Elska Magazine Issue (15) - Bogotá, Colombia

$24.99

Product Description

Elska is a magazine dedicated to photographs of real men with flaws unedited - along with their stories - delivering an intimate, cultural and eye-and-mind-opening experience.

With its combination of nude and clothed photography, and its interviews with the subjects, Elska is part quasi-intellectual male pin-up mag; part sexy anthropology journal; part international street style zine. It is provocative, authentic, imperfect (''cos perfect is boring''), and made with love. London photographer Liam Campbell, the editor and moving force behind Elska, says: "I started Elska to spotlight not always pretty but always beautiful men, shot with honesty, so that their allure isn't in perfect bodies, perfect skin, and perfect smiles, but through their vulnerability, humour, and personality. I want to know them, because they are real, not just images on a page''.

This issue marks Elska's first time in South America, and is dedicated to the men of Bogotá, capital of Colombia, and possibly the gayest city in the Latin world. This is also the most naked issue of Elska ever, which tells you something about the freeness of the culture here.

Featuring fifteen local men photographed throughout the city and in their homes, each photospread is accompanied with a personal story, letting you know them (and their city and culture) at an even more intimate level. Perhaps owing to innate Latin romanticism, the stories here are rather on the dramatic and poetic side. Among the texts there's Duv V’s account of falling for a man he couldn’t have - his teacher; there’s Andrés V's piece on how he got away from prostitution; there’s Leonard M's story on building a new Bogotano life after fleeing Venezuela; there’s Mario A’s love elegy to his Gabriel; and there’s Davo O’s tale of depression and his little ragdoll named Clemente.

Then beyond the Colombians shot on location in Bogotá, you'll meet two more Colombians shot elsewhere - Manuel B, shot in Astoria, Queens, and David O-L, shot in Rhode Island while on a holiday to visit his boyfriend.
