Marco and Katie, devastated by the death of their friend Jerome and separated by thousands of miles, turn to each other for comfort and answers. Marco, in New Zealand, and Katie, now in America as a foreign-exchange student, converse through a series of on-line chats, faxes and e-mail messages. As they explore the nature of their respective relationships with Jerome, denial gives way to truth. And when Kate discloses that she is gay, Marco is incredulous, since Kate had been Jerome's girlfriend. In a desperate attempt to make sense of his death, Kate tells Marco that Jerome, too, was gay and that they had posed as a couple to protect one another, which then forces Marco to question the true nature of his own feelings about his best friend. Jerome is a moving portrait of self-discovery that rings with humor and compassion. Also check out William Taylor's Blue Lawn.
